Apple iPhone 5 to go on sale on October 15th, Orange confirms

We can imagine Apple won't be particularly happy about that, but the CEO of Orange might have just spilled the beans on the availability of the iPhone 5. He said that if he believes what he hears, the next iPhone will be out by 15th October on his network.
Since CEOs of major carriers like Orange rarely get their information from anywhere else, but the manufacturer itself, this one seems rather trust-worthy. Stephane Richard also went on to say that they will be special packages on offer for the iPhone 5, but that's hardly a surprise, considering the importance of the smartphone to carriers.
Earlier today, we also heard an interesting rumor about the availability of the iPhone 5 in the UK. This information, however, comes from O2's customer service center so it's a bit harder to believe. And there's little sense in Apple releasing the smartphone in France, before they bring it to UK, so it's unlikely that both of those are true at the same time.
So, if the iPhone 5 is to come in the middle of next month we should be looking for its announcement event to be scheduled for the end of September. That nicely coincides with the rumor that iOS 5 will be getting its Gold Master release on September 23th.
Yeah, the waiting is killing us too, but at least we know its end is finally nearing.

Sony Ericsson Xperia Active delayed until September 26th

If you have been impatiently waiting for the Sony Ericsson Xperia Active to launch so you can finally take it rock-climbing, we have some bad news for you. The rugged droid that was expected to become available any moment now has been delayed until the end of the month.
Online retailers are now listing September 26th or later as the date when first Xperia Active stock is expected. Previously, we were expecting the Sony Ericsson newest droid to hit the shelves on Spetmeber 9th, but it missed that target and rumor has it that a delay of the UK shipments was the reason.
Due to this new development of events the Xperia Active should hit the UK shelves at about the same time as the Motorola Defy+, which should be one of its main competitors. The other, Samsung Galaxy Xcover isn't coming out until October, though, so the Xperia Active position won't be that bad at launch.

Nokia N9 pre-orders through the roof, 64GB batch all reserved

Nokia Flagship Store in Helsinki, Finland has started taking pre-orders for the MeeGo-based Nokia N9. It’s been just three days, but all available pre-orders for the 64GB N9 version are already reserved.

Whatever stock Nokia is preparing for its Flagship Store in Helsinki it seems it won’t be enough, because all the pre-orders will be reserved very soon. N9 will be available in 16 and 64GB versions, so the 16GB unit is the only option in Finland for now.
It’s really nice to see the N9 has generated such interest - something the company is having trouble with quite some time. Let's hope Nokia will do well on the MeeGo support too, otherwise it will be hard to trust it that much again in the future.
