Apple’s iPhoto Can Be Installed On Original iPad With Simple Hack

Last week Apple announced the new iPad 3, along with a range of new apps for the tablet, one of those was iPhoto, but unfortunately the application only works on the iPad 2 and iPad 3.
Now it looks like there is a simple hack that will let you install iPhoto on your original iPad, and it works in the same way as the previous hack for iMovie on the first generation iPad.

iPhoto can be installed on the original iPad using Apple’s iPhone Configuration utility, you can find out more information on how this can be done over at App Advice.

Police to Raid The Pirate Bay, According to Sources

After the first raid done by the Swedish government 6 years ago, The Pirate Bay, the world’s most popular torrent site, is again threatened by another crackdown, according to credible sources.
The Pirate Bay itself confirmed the news regarding a pending raid and revealed that they have been receiving updates about it since investigations regarding the site was resumed in 2010.
As such, the group decided to make known to the public that they are well-informed about the situation. TPB also assures everyone that even if servers and domain names are cut off, the site will remain to be of service to millions of torrent users around the world. What’s the secret?
Aside from full site backup, TPB made the effort to create a “magnet link” site, which allows for the entirety of The Pirate Bay to be reduced to some hundred megabytes. Now the site can be saved in flash drives, even in DVDs!
“We’re staying put where we are. We’re going no-where. But we have a message to hollywood, the investigators and the prosecutors: LOL,”  The Pirate Bay team says in conclusion.

Google Pays Apple $1 Billion To Be Search Default

Talk about a mega blockbuster mammoth of a deal! According to one analyst, Google could be paying as much as $1 billion to be the default search engine in Safari on the iPhone, iPad, and Mac systems. I guess they really do have more money than God. In fact, God probably bugs them for lunch money at this point.

That number isn’t just guesswork. They did plenty of number-crunching to arrive at this conclusion. And we are talking about the iPhone, the most sought after phone since its debut, and the same is true of the iPad.
According to Business Insider, if the iPad continues to grow it will surpass PCs in 5 years. At that point an Apple switch to another search provider could be devastating for Google. So you begin to see how that number makes a lot of sense. It will be interesting to see what happens between these two companies in the coming years.

Facebook Interest Lists Turn Your Profile into a Personal Newspaper

Facebook has announced that it will be launching Interest Lists over the coming weeks. It appears that these Interest Lists will turn up on people’s accounts randomly and some may get them early, while others have to wait a while. This is sort of an expansion to the interests Facebook already allows you to choose.
Facebook says when your account has the ability to activate Interest Lists you will see the “Add Interests” icon here in the upper left-hand corner of the newsfeed. Users will also be able to create lists from the Create Lists prompt on the Interests page.
Facebook says that these new interest lists will help you turn your Facebook profile into a personalized newspaper. Results from these lists will be placed into your normal newsfeed for you to peruse. There will be traditional news section lists for sports and business among others and you’ll be able to choose personalize lists for things like tech news for specific sports players. When you think about this?

Android Market Terms Prohibits In App Use Of Third Party Payment Services

Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 preview: First look

Introduction

The 10-inch form factor is the corridors of power in tablet terms, but the ones that won't turn your wallet inside out are hard to come by. In the Galaxy Tab 2 10.1, Samsung seem to have a reasonably-spec'd Android tablet, which might be the answer to that particular problem.

Close window
Close window
The Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 isn't a radical departure from the original Tab 10.1, but builds on the company's tablet know-how (they must have redesigned the original a dozen times) and launches with Google's latest Android version, Ice Cream Sandwich.
Let's go over the specs before moving on.

Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 at a glance:

  • Form factor: Tablet
  • Dimension: 256.6 x 175.3 x 9.7 mm
  • Weight: 588g
  • Display: 16M-color 10.1" PLS LCD capacitive touchscreen of WXGA resolution (1280 x 800 pixels)
  • OS: Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, TouchWiz UI
  • Chipset: 1 GHz dual-core processor
  • Camera: 3.2 MP autofocus camera with 1080p video recording; VGA front-facing camera
  • Memory: 16/32GB of inbuilt storage, expandable via a microSD card slot
  • Connectivity: Voice and data connectivity with quad-band GSM/GPRS/EDGE and quad-band (850/900/1900/2100 MHz) UMTS, 21 Mbps HSDPA and HSUPA 5.76 Mbps support, video calls, dual-band Wi-Fi a/b/g/n, Wi-Fi Direct, Assisted GPS, Bluetooth 3.0, 30-pin connector
  • Battery: 7,000mAh
  • Misc: Gyro sensor, accelerometer sensor for automatic UI rotation, ambient light sensor, Adobe Flash Player 11 support, DivX/XviD support, TV-out (adapter required), USB host (via an adapter)
If you were expecting the Tab 2 10.1 to take charge of Samsung's Android tablet lineup, you'd probably be disappointed, but there's little to cast doubt on its ability to handle daily tasks with ease.
Samsung have also enabled 1080p video recording (like in the Tab 2 7.0), but to us photography on a tablet shouldn't be a priority.
Things like web browsing, watching videos, gaming and document editing are well within its reach, the only area where the Tab 2 10.1 is likely to fall short (besides synthetic benchmarks) is high-end gaming

iPad still dominates the tablet realm, but Android is getting close, analysis shows

We just got the report on the tablet market in 2011 from Strategy Analytics and it tells some interesting stories. The iPad managed to just over double its sales compared to 2010 and is still the dominant force, holding a market share of 57.6%.
However, the iPad is no longer able to keep up with the overall market growth, which is fueled by the strengthening Android sales. The green robot tablets shipments grew over three times year-over-year and that helped them reduce the gap to their iOS counterparts.
The Windows tablets also managed to snatch 1.5% of the market, while other platforms (that would mostly the HP TouchPads and BlackBerry PlayBooks, we guess) got 1.9%.
If iOS and Android do keep their growth rate through 2012, the two will be tied at the top come the end of the year. Windows will probably be unable to make a strong impact just yet, but there’s huge potential there too with the Windows 8 platform, so we should probably be keeping an eye on it, as well.
Update, January 27: Strategy Analytics released a few more interesting tidbits on the tablet market. It turns out that 40% of the Android tablets are in fact either Kindle Fires or Nook Tablets, neither of which uses Google services or has (official) access to the Android Market. That’s great news for Amazon and Barnes & Noble, but not so much for Google. Still, it shows how much demand there is for a $200 tablet.
Are you planning on getting a shiny new slate in 2012? If yes, what would be your platform of choice? Share with us in the comments section below.
